Growing up a Malibu local, Mr. Joey Escobar is a familiar face in the community. Always an athletic child, surfing and skating were part of the daily routine; however, at the age of 8 the introduction of Karate started a passion and talent that continues to thrive today.
In 1968, his training started under the infamous Mr. Chuck Norris earning rank in the art of Tang Soo Do Karate. His talent for sparring started a series of competitions in which he became recognized as one of the top fighters in the world.
As an accomplished tournament fighter, Joey became Team Captain of the U.S. Karate Team.
Not only is Mr. Escobar a seventh degree Black Belt Master in Tang Soo Do Karate, but he is also a boxing and kickboxing instructor. He has trained with world champions and contendors world wide and hopes to share his knowledge and passion for the martial arts with this hometown of Malibu.
Mr. Escobar has been a Tang Soo Do Karate instructor for over 30 years and holds the title of 7th degree Black Belt. He considers his biggest and most rewarding accomplishment to be the quality, confidence and pride he instills in his students. Instructing by his side are his wife, Ginger and son Skyler - both are 2nd degree Black Belts.
He was the Grand Champion in the Battle of Atlanta. Other credits include: Two time Hawaiian Grand Champion, three time American national champion, Canadian-American Champion, World Pro-Am Champion, seven time Internation Middleweight Champion, and the much coveted International Grand Championship; however, his greatest accomplishment and thrill is watching his students take home their own championship trophies.
